The West Point Judo Athlete Development Handbook was the roadmap for our program’s success from 2009-2014. This document allowed our athletes to understand the plan and track their performance. It is imperative that your athletes are part of the process and that information about what needs to be accomplished is transparent and available to them. As young athletes, we never cared much for details as the coaches would have everything ready when we came into practice. However, allowing the athlete to take some ownership of the training program can be impactful in accomplishing the team’s goals. Coaches and program leaders develop a strategy but too often leave athletes in the dark robbing them of their initiative to take ownership in the goal attainment process. In this handbook, you will find the process that was used to lay the foundation for each season of the West Point Judo program.
